Recorded in October 2003, Sinequanon is the second cd with Carlos Ezequiel,
and also became the name of the group. Since 2002 Guto Brambilla (double
bass) and Vitor Alcântara (saxophones) are part of the ensemble, performing
as quartet.
The result is an album which explores the typical nuances of acoustic
performances, focusing on live interplay, no overdubs, and most of the
tracks were first takes. Expanding concepts from the previous cd (Images),
the group makes use of contemporary jazz devices such as hybrid tonalities,
collective improvisation and free interpretation. Sinequanon is a latin
expression which entitles the group refers to a unique and determinant
alternative, in this case meaninf the artist urgency in responding to his
creative impulses.
From quieter and more intimate tracks such as " Recomeço" (L. Santiago) and "Serenata para Luciana" (C.Ezequiel), to sparking odd meters like " Entre
Amigos" (G. Brambilla), " We´ll Keep Swimming" (L. Santiago) and "Pedra de
Jogar em Doido" (C.Ezequiel), SINEQUANON is the group´s search for an authentic live art work. |
