Tenor sax player Marcelo Coelho releases "COLAGENS", the first solo album with his group, MC4+. In addition to having the contribution of special guest trombonist Vincent Gardner, member of the Maria Schneider Big Band and of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, COLAGENS arrives endorsed by David Liebman.

MC4+ has a contemporary, modern sounding musical signature, where the original compositions and the collective improvisations come to attention. It´s part of the expression of a new generation of brazilian musicians, that bring to their work and performances the influence of artists such as José Gramani, Ron Miller, Dave Holland, David Liebman. Marcelo Coelho states that his group´s sound is a deep association of different concepts, both musical and non-musical: "The source of my influences is not that relevant, as long as it brings me some kind of reflection or inspiration for playing or composing". For this work, the compositional process started combining the many experiments with modalisms, with Gramani´s polirhythmic studies, and the author´s impressions on brazilian poetry by Gonçalves Dias, and plastic artist Tide Hellmeister´s images and collages. Seamless interaction between american trombone player Vincent Gardner and the brazilian musicians, while sharing the studio, effectively demonstrates the communication possibilities of music as a universal language.

MC4+ is Marcelo Coelho (tenor sax), Lupa Santiago (electric guitar), Guto Brambilla (acoustic bass), Carlos Ezequiel (drums) and Paulo Malheiros (trombone), joined in this recording by Vincent Gardner (trombone).

"Forgoing into some a new and exciting rhythmic landscape, Marcelo Coelho breaks new ground with his group on this recording. This is just the beginning--- I look forward to further development of the group's sound along with the leader's future compositions. " David Liebman
